Project Principles

By creating a space that is both beautiful and functional, Laurel will be a place to enjoy all of life’s everyday moments and family milestones.

To achieve this vision, the design of Laurel has been guided by four key principles – Longevity, Adaptability, Landscape-led and Heritage, with each principle evident in individual residences, and collectively in the neighbourhood as a whole.

1.0 LONGEVITY

Classic architectural forms and long lasting materials that stand the test of time.

Enduring quality, timeless appeal.

2.0 ADAPTABILITY

Agile design with embedded flexibility accommodates the ebbs and flows of life.

A home that grows with you.

3.0 LANDSCAPE-LED

Design that makes the natural world part of the everyday, enhancing a sense of wellbeing.

Natural wellbeing.

4.0 HERITAGE

Creating a connection to the site’s rich history through built form and landscaping.

A rich history celebrated.

Landscape-led

Humans have an innate need for a connection to nature. Laurel draws on the history of Bentleigh as Melbourne’s original ‘Garden Suburb’ to enhance a sense of wellbeing by bringing greenery and nature into each residence.

Melbourne's Original Garden Suburb

The area was first settled in the 1850s, and early residents took great pride in their gardens. They worked hard to create a green oasis in the midst of the city, and their efforts paid off. Bentleigh soon became known for its stately homes and beautiful gardens.

Landscaped pocket park with established trees, fountain and a semi-circular pathway

“The linear park will provide important local passive open space for neighbours to meet, gather in small groups or to use individually. The space includes an historic fountain relocated from it’s original position and an element salvaged from the existing building to be positioned near to Huntley Road as an historical marker. The space is intimate in scale, contained by planting to the edges, and comfortable for use with seating, an open lawn area and shade trees.”
